Dear friends and family,
This is a post I could never fathom having to write. But I am in need of help.
As MANY of you know, the McLeod Family contracted covid in the later part of August. Laura was hit quite hard but with early intervention she was able to get through with mild repercussions. The two younger of their boys came through just fine.
Dad, Earl, did not. After the struggle to breathe worsened they went to the ER and he was admitted immediately. Unfortunately, turning for the worse his need to be transfered and medically ventilated was a necessity. He was airlifted next day to Erie, PA and is the MICU. Due to quarantine regulations set up by the CDC, neither Laura or any of the kiddos were able to see him. Earl's sister Millie has been driving back and forth so he is not alone, a family face is there to advocate and to keep the rest of us informed.
Laura was finally able to be with him last Saturday. She's been fantastic about information and being open to share this struggle via video with immediate family.
It is heart wrenching to see our BIG man Earl, down for the count. It's even more alarming to see how darn bald he really is without his hat!
He is really sick friends. Some days are just "okay", some days we question if we will ever get to talk to him again. This road to recovery will be long. We've put gobs of faith into our people for prayers. Not just for Earl and his family but for the intervention of God to be with his care team every step of the way until we can score one of those outstanding teddy bear hugs again.
Earl is a private guy. He's also got one of the BIGGEST hearts I've ever seen. If you're down on your luck, he's certainly rooting for you and will help you no matter what the situation. He's an amazing listener but will also tell you how it is. No frills, no fuss. Just a straight shooter. The salt of the earth.
I'm coming to you, from the heart to ask for help to assist with medical expenses, travel accommodation and gas. The kids are all split up. Laura needs to travel (all while still trying to completing recover from Covid as well) and I'd like to be able to help her alleviate some of the financial burden this will put on them.
He was named for both his Grampa's both were stong men, Earl (for the Russell) and A for Anton ( which was our Grampa McLeod middle name, who he never got to meet)
Any amount will be appreciated and updates will be given as often as possible.
Currently we are concerned about ARDS (acute respiratory distress syndrome) fibrosis and lung damage. So far his other body functions and organs are working as expected.
