Support for the Math Teachers at a Georgia High School

Donation protected
In the spring of 2020, I left my teaching job in Georgia to move to Maryland. I left behind amazing colleagues who were incredibly dedicated teachers. Shortly after I left, two of them moved to the cross-town rival, one to be an assistant principal and the other a math teacher. Their world was rocked on Wednesday of this past week when a severely troubled student opened fire in the halls, killing 2 students and 2 teachers and wounding several others.

There are much-needed fundraisers for the families of those who lost their loved ones, but a few of us who have taught with them want to do something for the teachers. Teachers don't make a lot of money—that's not why we do it. But we also don't think about having to replace clothing or shoes or watches because they are bloodstained. We don't think about the expense of not having access to our personal belongings for several days because they are secured as part of a crime scene. We don't think about the meals we might need to buy just so we will remember to eat something, anything, while we may be reeling from trauma. Or the counseling we will need in order to process the experience if, God forbid, it ever happens to us.

These teachers will be expected to go back into the classroom soon and the last thing they need to worry about is money. So if you have it, and if you can, please donate so they can have one less thing to worry about for a few weeks as they try to resume some sense of normalcy.
