Waylon Kottke, a 4th grader at GSL had become sick on March 16th. On the 19th, with an emergency room visit it was found Waylon had a ruptured appendix. Waylon was taken by ambulance to Children's hospital in Minnesapolis for emergency surgery.
Even though the surgery seemed to be a success, Waylon has had many complications since.
After Waylon has continued to struggle to eat, becoming sick and running a fever, a 2nd procedure was done on the 27th (8 days post surgery) to remove some abscesses near his liver, or fluid pockets around his liver.
Now, we hope he can eat (not something you can force, his body will tell him if he is ready) and that todays cultures come back with clear, clean fluid, which is 24 hours for preliminary results, and more definite results in 48 hours.
However, he is still in the hospital for another 72 hours minimum for 3 more rounds of antibiotics. If fluid comes back infected...well, then Matt and Amanda will have decisions to make, that they have not shared.
Waylon is not out of the woods yet.
