Kristi and Kris Kokemor welcomed their long-awaited and prayed-for twins in late August. Carter was a healthy 6 pounds, but Payson was just 4 pounds, with issues requiring her to be in the NICU. She was losing weight and not eating well. After over 2 weeks in the NICU, over an hour from home, and all of the travel and living expenses associated with it, she finally came home.
Now, at 3 weeks old, baby Carter started vomiting and not holding down any nutrition. The pediatrician said they wanted to try a formula change. This did not work, so he was rushed to the ER. He has now been diagnosed with Pyloric Stenosis, a narrowing of the opening from the stomach to the first part of the small intestine. He was life-flighted to a children's hospital in Temple, 2 hours away from Brenham, where doctors say they need him to be more stable before surgery can be performed. He will remain in the hospital for several more days after they finally are able to perform the surgery.
Now Kristi and Kris have Payson with friends and family while they are back and forth to Temple. One parent must be in the room 24/7 per hospital policy.
This young family needs help with massive medical expenses, insurance is not covering everything of course, travel expenses, eating out expenses, as well as babysitting expenses.
Kristi is the daughter of Robin Strahan, granddaughter of Kathy Klawitter, and niece of Amy Pinkerton.
