Support For The Keeler Family
Cancer is a word no parent is ever prepared to hear.
Sweet Vienna Belle has been clinically diagnosed with a rare cancer called Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis. She had a very successful surgery and we are awaiting pathology results for when she can start chemotherapy. If they get a conclusive pathology result, she can start intensive chemo immediately. That would mean weekly trips to St Judes in Memphis for the first 6-12 weeks and every 3 weeks after for a year.
Unfortunately, their mechanic has told them their old van is not in reliable condition to make that many 6 hour roundtrips.
The Keeler family live in a 50 year old farmhouse and it needs quite a bit of modifications to make a safe environment for Vienna as well as the other people in the house. When someone gets chemotherapy treatment it is in their system for about 48 hours. For them, this means having one toilet in the house will be nearly impossible and potentially dangerous for the other people living in the home. Its important to keep the other little ones not exposed to the treatment.
Also, the home needs to be under a certain humidity level to be considered safe and prohibit mold from growing. Vienna will be at a higher risk for infections and pneumonia. Mold can be fatal for a person going through chemo. Currently, they have a mystery leak in the basement coming from their well as well as standing water when it rains. This is potentially dangerous because it can cause mold to grow.
These are just a few examples of the needs of preparing the home to make it as safe as it can be so that the family can just focus on caring for their other children and getting Vienna treatment. Regardless of if the chemo will begin immediately or if they’ll have to monitor the cancer and return to St. Jude for scans every few months, their home needs major safety modifications for their daughter who will be living with this cancer in the meantime, hoping it is not reactivated even more dangerously by an immune reaction to the mold and water situation they are currently facing.
Our goal for this gofundme is to take some of the weight from Amber and Nathan. To let them focus taking one day at a time while we focus on getting their home ready for the realities of living with cancer and/or chemotherapy.
Their lives have been turned upside down and they are finding themselves in need of some big miracles. Home modifications, as well as reliable transportation to make the many 6 hour trips to St Judes in Memphis are at the top of the list of needs. Please help us surround Vienna and the Keeler family in love and support during this journey.
We will be donating any unused funds to St Judes in the Keeler family name.
