Many of you may have already seen the news about the passing of Colin Kang, a 2022 Mission San Jose graduate and December 2025 San Jose State University graduate, who passed away in a skiing accident at Northstar. He was only 21.
What a lot of people may not know is that Colin finished his Electrical Engineering degree in just three and a half years — a semester early. That was Colin. Fearless and driven, but never in a way that felt like he was trying to prove something. He just loved life and went after it fully. Skiing, mountain biking, rock climbing, caving, golf — he was always out doing something, always up for the next adventure. And somehow on top of all of that he was one of the most genuine, grounded people you'd ever meet. That combination is rare. Colin had it naturally.
He was the only child in his family. His father suffered a stroke in 2024 and has been unable to work since, and his mother, a music teacher, has been the sole provider for the family. They are now facing unimaginable grief on top of an already incredibly difficult year.
A group of us are organizing a fundraiser to support the Kang family during this time. Any amount would be deeply appreciated, and if you're unable to give right now, simply sharing this within the MSJ community means more than you know.
Please keep the Kang family in your thoughts. Thank you for your kindness and support.
