On Sunday, May 15, Kaya was playing at the park at the Cherry MN Community Center, after her sister’s softball practice. When getting ready to leave, Kaya tripped on the sidewalk, fell backwards, and hit her head on the cement. Her mom, Kira, noticed her cry was different then normal and Kaya vomited and went unresponsive. Hibbing ambulance responded, and Kaya was transferred to air medical who flew her to St Mary’s in Duluth, where ER doctors quickly determined she needed to be at Children’s Hospital Minneapolis. Kaya was then flown by helicopter to Children’s and upon arrival they discovered she had a head bleed and fractured skull and underwent emergency surgery. Kaya is in PICU at children’s hospital at this time. All money raised will help Kaya’s parents, Adam and Kira, with out of pocket expenses.
