Support the Kamuli Community Brass Band

 

This is my friend, Tibagalika Geofrey. Tibagalika is the director of the Kamuli Community Brass Band in Uganda. They are in need of instruments, music stands, music books, etc to help students in his community learn to play an instrument and have a positive outlet in their in lives. Partnering with a local orphanage, they have upwards of a 140 students involved, but only 40 instruments to use!

 

I am raising funds to offset the expense associated with shipping instruments to Uganda. Also, some of the instruments I have acquired need some repair before I feel comfortable sending them. In my time knowing Tibagalika, I have known him to be a man of integrity who genuinely wants to provide a sense of community among the children in the Brass Band.

 

 

 

Tibagalika's background is full of challenges but is interesting:

 

"I started this band with the major aim of helping the children to attain education and this it can save them from a life lost, some of the children are orphans, those who are from the streets, refugees and others from the community.

 

"Near our home there was a brass band which was for the Catholic organization, so I joined the band and fortunately they started supporting me with school tuition and other scholastic materials, this eased the financial burden that our mother had.

 

"So since I love brass/jazz band music , I thought of starting a brass band through which I can help these less privileged children in the community.

 

"Why the brass band? It was the only way I could gather these children easier and since children love sports and music it was very easy and fortunately the community welcomed the idea. When I started working I used some of my savings and started buying these old used instrument which we started with and they were 10 brass instrument. I started the band in 2017 with 10 instruments and 23 children in the band and because the entry was free, the number went on growing.

 

"How I have been getting instruments: It has been through calling for donations of used instruments from friends in the Europe and I have been getting one by one, so that's how we have managed to get more instruments and so far now we have 24 instruments but due to the big number we have now that's why we really need more instruments.

 

"This band has helped many children and we are committed to helping these less privileged children through brass band. I am a living testimony to the children and some are being inspired by me."
