Support for the Hurley family & their baby's medical journey
Donation protected
Hello, friends and family,
We are reaching out for support as our family faces a challenging time. One of our twins has been diagnosed with tetralogy of Fallot, a combination of heart defects that will require open- heart surgery within the first six months after he’s born.
Due to this condition, we need to deliver at UW Medical Center in Seattle, where he will be admitted to the NICU immediately after birth. The length of his stay in the NICU will depend on how well his blood is circulating. Depending on his condition, he may also be transferred to the cardiac ICU at Seattle Children’s Hospital.
We need to be in Seattle several weeks before my due date in case I go into labor early. After delivery, we will need to stay in Seattle for a while for monitoring before returning to Lopez Island. Additionally, we will need to travel to Seattle for various tests and screenings between now and September. He will require some type of procedure right after birth, but the extent of it is yet to be determined. This will all require a lot of missed work hours for both of us.
This is a difficult journey for our family, and we appreciate any support you can offer during this time. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Warmly, Sara, Justin, and Family
An update (8/4):
On Tuesday we learned that Baby A (not the one with the heart defect) has growth restriction and will need additional monitoring of his own. On Thursday, Sara was flown off the island to UW with threatened preterm labor. We are still at the hospital, and she is still pregnant but the plan is now for us to stay in Seattle until the boys arrive.
Thank you for all the continued prayers and well wishes.
