On Sunday, October 9th of Thanksgiving weekend, my wonderful brother-in-law passed away with my sister by his side.
After a gruelling almost 2-year long battle with cancer, Neils body became far too weak to be able to put up as valiant a fight as he had been able to during the beginning of his journey.
Following one of his chemotherapy sessions last year he became weak and suffered a cardiac arrest. Extremely grateful for the fast acting paramedic team and doctors at KGH, we were all extremely hopeful that the miracle of being brought back to life was the wildest rollercoaster that Neil and our family needed to fight stronger and keep him with us. His cancer however, had other ideas.
We remained positive and hopeful that a bowel resection surgery and radiation a few short months ago would allow Neil to heal and regain some strength to keep fighting, but his body became weak and incredibly exhausted. After showing quick decline at home last Saturday morning, a paramedic team worked quickly to get him to KGH, but was given the news later that afternoon that his body was far too weak to be able to continue with any more chemotherapy treatments, his liver was in failure, and that his time left with us could have been anywhere from a few hours to a few days. Thankful for FaceTime, his girls both said their heartbreaking goodbyes, and he passed with his love by his side early afternoon on Sunday.
Having not been able to work during his diagnosis and treatments (and Rachael having not been back to work for very long) I have set up this GoFundMe page in an attempt to relieve some of the financial burden for my sister and her girls during this very sad and difficult time.
Although I know my sister would never ask for help, I also know that whatever can be donated in support of her family will be appreciated while they try to navigate their lives without Neil.
