We, the Rebels Crusaders family, are organizing this fundraiser on behalf of the Hann family during an incredibly difficult time.

In December, during what was meant to be a festive final practice before the holiday break, our Rebels family experienced an unexpected and devastating emergency. Patty Hann, a cherished member of our community and the mother of our assistant coach, Cassandra “Cassie” Hann suddenly collapsed at the gym and suffered a cardiac arrest.

What unfolded in those moments was nothing short of terrifying. It happened without warning, turning what should have been a joyful evening into a scene of urgency and fear. Thanks to the quick actions of those present and the emergency response that followed, Patty was rushed to Lakeridge Health in Oshawa, where she began an incredibly critical fight for her life.

Patty faced serious medical complications, including a brain injury, and required intensive care. In the weeks that followed, doctors were genuinely amazed by her resilience and the progress she continued to make. After ongoing treatment in hospital, Patty was discharged and returned home on Feb 13th — a milestone that once felt uncertain.

While being home is an incredible step forward, her recovery is far from over.

Patty continues to work toward regaining her strength, motor skills, and memory. Since returning home, she has begun recognizing things from November that she had previously forgotten — an encouraging and hopeful sign. However, she still experiences memory lapses and must take things very slowly.

At this time, her husband remains home caring for Patty and their disabled son, making it impossible for him to work. The family is also still awaiting confirmation of PSW support and ongoing home care services.

Many of us know Patty as “Coach Patty” from her time coaching with the club last season. She has always been a supportive presence within our Rebels community. Cassie is now in her third year coaching with the club and continues to give so much to our athletes, even while supporting her family through this incredibly challenging time.

We are raising funds to help ease the financial burden on Patty and her family as they navigate this long road to recovery. Contributions will assist with loss of income, home care needs, transportation, medical-related expenses, and daily living costs during this time.
