On May 21st 2020, Ellen Griffin woke up to find she couldn't speak or use her right side. The doctors found a brain tumor the size of a lemon, and Ellen immediately underwent emergency surgery. There were complications. She didn't wake up from the anesthesia for nearly two days, and when she did wake up, she still couldn't speak.
As doctors continued to investigate Ellen's brain tumor, one morning her blood pressure plummeted. Her family was told to prepare for the worst. The doctors started exploratory surgery, and found a perforated colon. Ellen endured more surgery, with the doctors removing dead pieces of her intestines every other day for over a week. By the last surgery, the doctor warned the Griffins that if Ellen needed any more intestine removed, they may not be able to save her.
All in all, Ellen was in the hospital for the rest of 2020 and into 2021, primarily alone. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, her family was denied regular visitation.
Ellen is finally able to come home, but she will need round-the-clock care. She has not regained her mobility. Although she has survived what originally seemed un-survivable, she still has a long road ahead.
Please help support the Griffin Family during this time. Between all the surgeries, the long term hospital stay, the long term acute care rehab center, and the necessary home health care setup, the Griffins are looking at over $500k in medical bills.
Ellen, along with Joe, Cat, and Taylor, are the amazing people in this world who will always drop everything in order to help you. Now, they need our help. Please contribute any amount that you can, and feel comfortable to share with friends. The Griffins deserve all the love and support in the world. Let's give it to them.
**A note from the Organizers: Thank you so much for your support! All contributions are welcome and appreciated! If you would prefer to send a check, please let us know and we’ll be glad to provide an address.
