On Thursday November 25, our beloved Karen Gill, fainted in the shower and hit her head. Doctor’s at the hospital in Alliston determined that she needed a greater level of care and so she was quickly taken to Saint Michaels Hospital in Toronto. Over the next several days it was determined that Karen had fainted due to an aneurism located deep in her brain. While the aneurysm is small, it is still very dangerous. On Wednesday December 1st the aneurysm began to balloon and neurosurgeons rushed her into emergency surgery. While they were able to ease the pressure on her brain, they were unable to cauterize the aneurysm due to its location. How long Karen will be in the hospital, or what the future prognosis will be is unknown.

As you can imagine this has been an extremely stressful time for her husband Kevin and two daughters Maegan and Carly. Every day they make the long trek from Angus to Toronto to support Karen as much as they can. Due to COVID protocols and the fact that Karen is in the ICU, only one person at a time can visit and only for a maximum of three hours per day. Even though our health care in Canada is paid for, parking, subway fares, meals out and prescriptions when Karen is no longer in the hospital are not. These items add up very quickly and can be a huge financial burden for the family of a critically ill person. With this in mind we have set up this Go Fund Me page so that all of those who care for Karen and her wonderful family have the opportunity to support them in this time of need.
