Support the Canniff-Murphy Family after Tragic Fire and Loss

On the night of January 27, 2026, Chris, Katharine, their 3 children (Angela 16, Joe 15, & Christopher 10), and 2 dogs (Hugo & Rosie) who live in Tolland, Connecticut, suffered an unimaginable loss when their home was destroyed by a sudden and intense fire.

Fire departments from across the region raced to the 4-alarm fire late that night as the house became fully engulfed in flames. Despite the courageous efforts of the fire departments across the region, their home — a place of cherished memories and everyday life — was completely lost, reduced to rubble.

Tragically, one beloved family member, Mike Washo, a devoted father and grandfather who brought warmth, laughter, and stability to those around him — suffered a serious medical emergency outside the burning home and later passed away. His loss has left a profound void in the hearts of his family, friends, and the community.

Now, the family faces the long road ahead — grieving a cherished loved one and picking up the pieces after losing everything in the blaze. They are dealing with emotional trauma, the sudden loss of their family’s patriarch as well as housing and property, and the financial burden of rebuilding their lives from scratch.

We are starting this fundraiser to:

Help the family with immediate needs — housing, clothing, food, and day-to-day expenses while they stabilize.

Assist with rebuilding costs — including replacing essential belongings and future housing needs.

Honor Mike's memory — by establishing a memorial fund in his name — a lasting tribute to someone who meant so much to those who loved him.
