On Monday morning, March 23rd, Michelle went to wake two-year-old Poppy and found her unresponsive. Michelle immediately called 911, and Poppy was transported to Fairview Southdale Hospital before being transferred to Masonic Children’s Hospital for specialized care. Poppy never regained responsiveness. Imaging showed severe brain swelling and injury, with a diagnosis of adenovirus-associated Acute Necrotizing Encephalitis (ANE), a rare and devastating condition. She underwent emergency surgery to relieve pressure on her brain, but despite every effort, her condition continued to worsen.
Michelle and Kris remained by her side every moment, holding her, speaking to her, and praying for a miracle. They were surrounded by their incredible community who lifted them up in prayer and covered them in love each day they fought for Poppy's life. They waited a few days to reimage in an effort to better understand the extent of her brain damage.
After a repeat MRI, it became clear that Poppy’s injury had progressed and her medical team recommended withdrawal of life support. Poppy went to be with Jesus shortly after. There are no words for this loss.
Kris and Michelle, along with their daughters Hazel (7) and Rose (5), are now navigating life moment by moment, leaning on their faith and the love surrounding them.
We are asking for support to help ease the financial burden during this unimaginable time, allowing them to focus on grieving, healing, and being together as a family. Thank you for your prayers, love, and generosity.
