Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted individuals,
We are reaching out to you today with heavy hearts and asking for your support. The beloved Ericson family is facing an incredibly challenging battle as Dan recovers from a terrible accident.
On Sunday, October 8th, 2023 Dan was attempting to return home to his wife, Amy, and 1 year old son, Henry when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed.
Thankfully, he was conscious after the crash and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. They quickly realized Dan's injuries would require a trauma units attention. They made the decision to airlift him on a life flight to Region's Hospital in St. Paul, MN.
Once they assessed his injuries they determined that Dan broke/fractured 5 vertebrae in his spine, broke his shoulder blade, broke 7 ribs and suffered a collapsed lung. During the accident he hit his neck which injured the main artery causing a blood clot to form. Dan had a severe stroke on the right side of his brain due to a clot that went to his brain that evening. He has lost the sensation to his left side as well as movement and gross motor, he’s regained a small amount of movement but time will tell through therapy what can be re-gained.
After the stroke he had a significant amount of brain swelling and Thursday 10/12 was taken for a Craniotomy where a portion of his skull was removed to allow for the brain to swell with out causing further damage.
He will be in the ICU between surgeries to monitor his pulse, his back injury, and the clot in his neck. The next surgery will be another Craniotomy to re-attach the skull bone that was removed, we anticipate that to be within the next 1-3 months based on his recovery. Once the Craniotomy surgery is complete Dan will then have back surgery to repair his broken vertebrae. Our family is preparing for a long road ahead as Dan recovers.
The cost of the medical premiums, rehabilitation, and loss of pay is a huge financial burden on the Ericson family. We are couniting our blessings that Dan was able to survive the accident, but they have the costs of this injury, along with the loss of his income, weighing on them heavily.
We ask for you to continue to keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this difficult time and to share this campaign with your friends and family if you are able to.
Let's unite as a community to provide the much-needed hope and financial assistance Dan and his family require. Your kindness is appreciated, and it will make an immeasurable difference in their lives.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your compassion, generosity, and support.
