Hi everyone,
My name is Shelbi and I’m writing this on behalf of the Duncan family, who would never normally ask for help like this. They are kind, hardworking, and generous people, and this post comes from a place of necessity, not comfort.
In August 2025, Crystal was diagnosed with breast cancer. Since then, their lives have been turned upside down. She underwent her first surgery in October 2025 and is currently in the middle of chemotherapy. A second surgery is planned for spring 2026, which will require at least a week-long stay in Kelowna, along with continued travel back and forth from Kamloops for appointments and treatment.
Their family, and friends have been incredibly supportive throughout this journey, surrounding them with love and care during some very difficult months. Still, the financial strain has quietly continued to build.
Just before Crystal had to go off work, the family lost nearly all the food in their freezer after it was accidentally left open. Not long after that, in January, the freezer itself stopped working entirely, forcing them to replace the appliance and all the food once again. At the same time, Crystal has been receiving less than half of her usual income while on EI.
There have also been ongoing and unavoidable expenses piling up, including frequent travel costs for medical appointments and surgeries in Kelowna, replacing the freezer and groceries, her son’s tuition which required borrowing money to cover, and unexpected but urgent veterinary expenses. A young pregnant cat the family rescued off the street in October 2024 needed immediate care that simply could not wait.
Any one of these challenges would be difficult on its own. Facing all of them at once, while navigating cancer treatment, has been overwhelming.
This GoFundMe is meant to help ease some of that burden so the Duncan's can focus on what truly matters right now: Crystal’s health, healing, and their family. Any donation, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference. If you’re not able to donate, sharing this fundraiser or keeping them in your thoughts and prayers is just as appreciated.
*Any funds not utilized by the family will be donated to their son’s school for families in need of tuition relief. *
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for supporting a family who truly deserves it.
With gratitude,
A friend of the Duncan family.
