Support for the Coleman/Karpowicz Family

Donation protected
Claire Coleman was tragically taken from us on January 24, 2020.

Just two weeks after being diagnosed with cancer, Claire ended up in the ICU where she struggled for her life for 15 days. Her husband, James, spent every day and many nights talking to her, holding her hand, telling her about her kids, and hoping for a miracle. In the end, she lost this battle.

This campaign is meant to ease the financial burden of her end of life expenses, and hopefully raise some extra funds to support the family's immediate financial needs. With her son, Max, in college and her other son, Jasper, in high school, the family was facing significant financial burden even before this terrible tragedy.

Claire created a loving family around her with art exhibitions, musical performances, and a film, “Chuck: Lost Object Found,” which featured many of her friends and family members, and songs she wrote herself. She was the person who brought all of us together and encouraged us to create and collaborate, and built a community of love, generosity, fun, humor, and joy.

Claire was a pioneer in the recent revival of Livingston Manor. In 2010 she created and opened The Plunk Shop at 41 Main Street when many of the storefronts in town were closed and much of the town’s real estate was in foreclosure. It was a brave and optimistic venture that changed an entire community. Her kindness, her generosity, her artwork, her inspiration, and her love touched so many of us. Plunk was not only a business, it was a gathering place for friends and the community at large.

She died peacefully surrounded by family and friends. Claire leaves behind two amazing sons and her husband in addition to her mother, nephew, and siblings and the countless friends she made over the years.

Please help us support the Coleman/Karpowicz family at this tragic time.
