Sweet Carol Lynn Card left the world this weekend, on January 16th, unexpectedly at her home in New York. Carol is a mother to her three children, Shannon, RJ and Crystal Card, a wife to her husband Robert Charles Card, (who passed on May 7th, 2005) and a friend to many in the local East Hampton and Long Island community. Carol was the president of the Parent Teacher association for many years at Amagansett school and loved to cook for her children and others. No matter her own situation, Carol always found a way to prepare a meal with love for someone she cared for, and spent many hours volunteering her time at the local food pantry.
As Shannon and RJ’s closest friends, we have come together to set up this GoFundMe account to help Carol’s children with funeral expenses and ongoing recovery as they navigate this emotional loss and move forward, as siblings without the physical presence or on-going support from their two parents. Carol’s eldest daughter, Crystal lives in Missouri with her three children, Carol’s son RJ resides in Springs, where he works full time for Quality Air Care, and her daughter, Shannon, lives on Kauai. When Shannon received a phone call from the police on January 16th, she immediately began to organize her trip to New York, to be with her older brother, and organize a service and memorial for their mom.
Although we do not know the reason of Carol’s passing at this time, what we do know is that the loss of both parents is a pain in which no children should have to experience, ever. Robert Card, Carol’s loving husband, as well as RJ’s, Shannon’s, and Crystal’s father died in 2005 when both children were only young teenagers. Since then, Carol did her best to maintain and her physical and emotional health.
In the recent years, Carol has required her own medical care, incurring not only significant and costly medical bills, but also the inability to work on-goingly due to permanent and painful lower back injuries. As you can imagine, living almost two decades as a single mother, without the ability to work or earn an income has left Carol in a position where she does not leave behind any money or savings at this time.
If you know any of the Cards personally, you know how fortunate you are to have them as both friends and family. They are the kindest, most loving and supportive individuals we have the privilege of knowing. Crystal, Shannon and RJ’s life has not been “easy” by any means, but what has always stood out the most is their ability to undergo adversity and come out on the “other side” more charismatic, positive and hopeful for their future and the future of others around them. Carol was blessed with the gift of three incredible children, who loved her unconditionally and did their best to support her in any way they could — financially, medically, emotionally, etc. Crystal, Shannon and RJ have gone above and beyond for their mother, and now we would like to do whatever we can to support and provide for them at this time.
In addition to the indescribable pain and sadness her three children are experiencing at this time, both Shannon and RJ will be financially impacted by the loss of their mother, Carol. We are raising this money for all funeral costs and any additional funds to help them get through this unexpected challenge. We are looking to raise as much money as possible in the next few days to be able to present to them at their time of need. It is moments like these that we as a community need to pick each other up, and help get one of our own through this most difficult of times.

Paying off any remaining debt or bills Carol has left behind at this time.
- Travel costs for Shannon and other family members.
- Rent money and cost of living for all three children at this time, as they uproot their current lives to organize all necessary arrangements for Carol’s passing, and take time away from their full time jobs.
- Additional and on-going therapy / support / counseling for all three children, who have not only “lost” both parents, but have been personally affected by addiction and alcoholism in their upbringing and lifetime.
100% of the money earned on this platform with be shared between Shannon, Crystal and RJ, Carol’s three children.
