Late at night on Easter, April 12, 2020, an F-3 tornado hit the community of East Brainerd in Chattanooga. Right in the path of that storm lay the house of the Calloway family - Adreanna, a 6th grader at GPS and the girl being held in the photo above by her sweet friends, Andre’ an employee of Comcast, and Melanie, a hair dresser and Adreanna’s sister Lynnielle Mays, a 2015 GPS graduate.
“Adreanna was upstairs in her bedroom when the power suddenly went out. She said it didn’t flicker - it just completely cutout. That scared her so she headed downstairs to her parents room. The only thing she grabbed were A COUPLE GPS UNIFORMS!!! They took cover in the hallway but her sister was still upstairs asleep in her room. Her dad started towards the sisters room upstairs when the stairs collapsed. Adreanna’s sister Gerrika had to jump down from the second story into her dad’s arms to get to safety!!! Adreanna’s room was completely ravaged, and it’s a miracle she escaped.
Once the tornado passed, they had to climb out of their house over couches and mattresses from upstairs through (what used to be) the front door. They tried to get car but the back window had been smashed. A firefighter came and told them to get to the YMCA. The walk was hard because it was dark and debris was everywhere. Adreanna cut her foot on a rock. Once they were at the Y a family friend brought them to Adreanna’s grandma’s house. They’ve gone back and forth but have only been able to salvage a few things.”
Friends, during this time of isolation, this is the way we can step up to help this family! Because beauty shops are deemed “non essential” Melanie’s income has already been slashed and the family needs immediate financial support to help get them back on their feet! All funds will be used for the immediate basic needs for the family, from clothes to food to personal items. The hope is to raise enough to help with housing even after the insurance companies step in.
WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE FOR THIS FAMILY!
