**Update #2
Thank you everyone. We have been blown away by your generosity and support. Your care and concern has meant a great deal and are sincerely appreciated. However, Lauren has requested space to really help her focus on Chris’ recovery and rehab at the Queensway Carleton Hospital and her own self-care. Chris’ stroke was severe, and his rehabilitation will be lengthy, often days go by with little or no progress. Their family needs time and quiet, and will reach out when ready. Be assured that updates will come when there’s something to share. Thank you for your understanding and continued positive thoughts and prayers.

**Update
A heartfelt note to express our deepest gratitude to those who have shown their support over this first week since Chris’ stroke. The loving calls and messages, the help at home, and now these generous donations are beyond appreciated. To reach the initial goal in less than 24 hours is truly moving and the family is incredibly thankful for your kindness.
The goal amount has been raised to extend the financial relief over the next few months. It is not always easy to ask for help and we are wonderfully amazed by the response and the kindness you have shown to Lauren, Chris and Claire.
Sincerely,
Kristin Kilby (Lauren’s sister)
***************
On New Year’s Day 2026, everything changed for our friend Lauren when her husband, Chris Caldwell, suffered a devastating stroke. Chris is currently receiving around the clock care in the Neuroscience Acute Care Unit at the Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus. It is still too early to tell what his recovery will look like, but it is certain to be a long, tough road ahead with significant physical and emotional challenges. Lauren has been by Chris’s side every step of the way.
We met Lauren through ringette when our daughters all played on the same team and have remained close friends ever since. Chris and Lauren’s daughter Claire has been playing with West Ottawa Ringette for a number of years so if you’re a ringette parent, you would probably have seen Lauren and Chris at the rink cheering Claire on. We are grateful that Lauren’s parents are here to care for Claire, allowing Lauren to focus on being with Chris.
As Lauren is self-employed and it is not known when or if Chris will be able to return to work, the financial impacts are already overwhelming.
We have created this GoFundMe to help alleviate the family’s immediate financial stress during this incredibly difficult time. Every donation, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference, covering essential living expenses such as meals, rent and bills, gas and parking for Lauren’s daily trips to and from the Civic, and potential adaptations necessary to welcome Chris home and support rehabilitation when the time comes.
If you’re unable to donate, please consider sharing this page and keeping Chris, Lauren and Claire in your thoughts and prayers.
With sincere appreciation,
