Bridge Over Troubled Water
Following an active pregnancy and healthy birth, Pita and Kristin welcomed their daughter, Joelle Judith Brooks-Rogers on February 5th, 2021. With a clean bill of health, they went home a few days later to reunite with big sister Xoe.

Less than a week later, one of Joelle’s legs became inactive—the first indication Joelle’s first months would be extremely challenging. Diagnosed with a neuroblastoma tumor on her spine and abdomen, Joelle underwent spinal surgery when she was less than ten days old. Critical care and therapies have followed, including chemotherapy and blood transfusions, all geared to eradicate the tumor and heal her from complications.
The family’s relationship with Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital will be an ongoing one. Throughout their stays, Pita and Kristin have remained grateful for this world-class medical care. Recently the family settled in back at home with augmented trips to the hospital as well as home visits from specialists.

Joelle Judith (JJ) continues to be an inspiration and a superhero beyond measure. Her immunity will remain suppressed for months, requiring close medical attention and TLC. In order to care for Joelle, Pita will delay her return to full-time work at Case Western Reserve University through mid to late summer. This fundraiser will help offset lost wage.
Routinely kind, compassionate, and giving to others—Pita, Kristin and their family need our support in their own moment of disruption. If you are able, please consider donating. Funds received will bring immediate relief and comfort at this time of many unknowns, helping Joelle thrive in the arms and presence of her loved ones.
