Derek Bonney, a teacher in Lehi , and his wife Amber recently traveled to Boston for Derek to run in the marathon, accompanied by their 18-month-old son Carl. During their trip, Amber unexpectedly went into labor at just 30 weeks. Their baby boy, James, was born prematurely and is now in the NICU, where he’s expected to remain for about 70 days while he grows stronger and receives specialized care. Because of this sudden medical emergency, the Bonney family is now living in Boston far longer than planned, away from home, work, and their support system. While insurance will help, there is still significant uncertainty around out-of-network medical costs, along with the immediate financial strain of extended housing, meals, transportation, and time away from work. We hope the community’s support will give the Bonney family some breathing room during an incredibly stressful and uncertain time. Right now, their focus needs to be on their two sons; being present with James in the NICU and supporting their 18 month old son Carl whose entire life has been uprooted and struggles to understand why all this is happening. Any support helps relieve that burden so they can concentrate on their baby’s health and recovery. If you’re able to donate, thank you! It truly makes a difference. If not, sharing this fundraiser helps extend its reach. If, by some miracle, more is raised than the family ends up needing, all extra funds will be donated to a local NICU to support other parents whose children are in the NICU.
