It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our husband and father, Dr. Algernon C. Baker, who entered eternal rest on the evening of July 23. To know Dr. Baker was to love him. He was unapologetically himself—fiery, brilliant, funny, and unforgettable. Behind his commanding presence, eloquent sermons, and unmistakable preaching cadence was a deeply tender heart that loved people well. He devoted his life to serving others through music, ministry, and marriage and family therapy. He fought for people, believed in redemption, and poured himself into helping others find hope, healing, and purpose. He loved his family deeply, and his children were his greatest joy. He was truly one of a kind—unique, steadfast, resilient, and a fighter until the very end.
The days ahead will bring many tears, countless cherished memories, and, if we’re being honest, more than a few inappropriate jokes that would have made him laugh. We will share those stories in the days to come. He served alongside so many of you in ministry, and so many of you faithfully walked beside him throughout his life. His absence will be deeply felt by family, friends, colleagues, congregations, clients, and all whose lives were touched by his wisdom, humor, and compassion.
For those who have reached out asking how they can help, we have established a memorial fund to assist with funeral expenses and to support our family during this difficult time. If you feel led to contribute, the information is provided below. Above all, we ask for your continued prayers and the sharing of your memories of Algernon.
Details regarding his homegoing celebration and arrangements will be shared in the coming days. Thank you for surrounding our family with your love, your prayers, and your grace during this incredibly difficult time. With love, Coeli, AJ, Caleb & Moriah
