On Saturday night, March 28, our family experienced the most unimaginable loss. Our parents, Micheal and Kathy Austin, along with their beloved dog journey, were taken from us far too soon in a tragic house fire that is believed to have been caused by arson. Our hearts are broken as we mourn two incredible people who still had so much life left to live.
Our mom and dad were truly one of a kind—loving, compassionate, and endlessly generous. They didn’t just talk about kindness; they lived it every single day. They led by example, teaching all of us that grace, understanding, and love matter in every moment. Their warmth could be felt by everyone they met, and their impact on the people around them will last forever.
If you knew our dad, you knew he was anything but your average dad. To the grandkids, he was “Poppy,” and that name quickly became what everyone called him. He was known for making the most interesting foods and always wanting everyone to try them. He told the most entertaining stories you could imagine and they were always unforgettable. His personality filled every room, and people naturally loved being around him.
Our mom, known lovingly as “Grandma,” was just as incredible. She had a way of making people laugh with her goofy, silly personality. Bowling was her passion, and spending time doing arts and crafts with her grandkids was something she loved dearly. The amount of kindness, grace, and forgiveness our mom showed to everyone was truly remarkable. She always seemed to know the right thing to say, no matter the situation. Grandma was home, no matter where you were. She was our safe place—the person we could always run to, no matter what. Not just for us, but for all of her grandkids as well.
As their children, we are trying to process a loss that still feels impossible. During this heartbreaking time, we are coming together to honor their memory and support our family through the difficult days ahead. This fundraiser will help with funeral expenses, rebuilding after the loss of their home, and the many unexpected costs that come with such a sudden tragedy.
