Support for the Atwell Family after the loss of Jaye Atwell

We are reaching out to you today with heavy hearts to ask for support for Michael “Mingus” Atwell and his children, Julien and Mya, after the devastating loss of Jaye Atwell, a beloved wife, mother, and friend.

We are raising money to help support Mingus and the kids with funeral costs, rent, food, animal care, and to help keep the Church of Destruction running so the Atwell family has time to grieve and heal during this time without having to worry about expenses.

Jaye passed away unexpectedly on February 13, 2025, at the age of 49, just days after being admitted to the hospital.
After thorough testing, the doctors confirmed Jaye’s diagnosis of stage 4 cancer all through her body.

The doctors said the cancer was the most aggressive they had ever seen, and despite every effort, she passed away just three days after her hospital admission.

Jaye was a vibrant, loving woman who lived life with passion and creativity. She had a deep love for music, art, and Gothic romances—Bram Stoker's Dracula being one of her favorites, and had a deep passion for animals, caring for cats, rabbits, and fish. As an incredibly talented seamstress, under the name "Blackbird Seamstress", she designed everything from maternity clothes and children's apparel to stage costumes for heavy metal bands, including those for Michael’s own band. Her talents were endless, and her heart was even bigger. Some of her pieces may be available

Jaye was a devoted mother to Julien (29) and Mya (21). She always put her children first and worked tirelessly to make sure they had everything they needed. She was a guiding light for her family, supporting Michael in every endeavor, her love, kindness, and unwavering belief in him were the foundation that kept their family strong.

She helped run the Church of Destruction, which is an Underground Metal Venue and Jam space for heavy metal, rock, and punk musicians across HRM for the last 21 years. Her love, kindness, and unwavering belief in him were the foundation that kept their family strong.

Jaye was not only a mother, wife, and friend, but also the person who always showed up for others, offering help and support, never asking for anything in return. She made a lasting impact on everyone she met, always with a kind word and a loving spirit. She was Michael’s light in the darkness, and without her, he feels the world is a little dimmer.
In this incredibly difficult time, we are asking for donations to support Michael and his children as they navigate through this painful loss. The family also has their beloved animals that need care, and any contributions will help them as they adjust to this unimaginable change.

Please consider donating to help Michael and his family during this heartbreaking time. No contribution is too small, and every act of kindness will be deeply appreciated. The importance of community has never been more evident than it is now.

Let’s come together and show Michael, Julien, and Mya the love and support they deserve. Thank you for your kindness, your generosity, and your willingness to help in any way you can. Jaye’s memory will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew her.

So far, the funeral and service date is not set, but this will be updated once the affairs are in order.

Thank you all so much
