As Josiah and Claire recently shared on social media about the birth of their son Sullivan Samuel; their desire was to not only announce the great news but to also invite those who know them into the sharing of “some” of what has been going on since Sully’s arrival. As they said, “It’s been a wild ride full of surprises and unexpected turns, but we have also experienced God's
faithfulness through it all!”
What they did not share as to keep their post more succinct was that their wild ride actually began with Claire getting hit by a car while she was walking across Main Street on Wednesday, June 25th. Thankfully the car was making a turn onto Main Street and was not driving at an
accelerated speed as to cause any serious injury to Claire or the baby. However, while in the ER having her leg wound treated, and tests being run to ensure all was ok with the baby it was discovered that Claire had preeclampsia. Because she would be 37 weeks the next day, they chose to admit her and by midnight began to induce her. That Friday, June 27th, Sullivan was born but fairly soon after was transferred to the NICU, as they noticed he was having trouble breathing on his own. They later found out that he had a hole in his lungs and would need to undergo an emergency surgery.
Claire and Josiah would also require a prolonged stay in the hospital due to Claire having dangerously high blood pressure and swelling. Her blood pressure remained a concern and has taken time to stabilize but thankfully she has been doing better and has since been discharged and happy to now be home with Josiah. However, it’s been so hard on them not having their sweet boy also home with them.
But…Josiah and Claire are just really thankful knowing how well their Sully boy is recovering and have been spending their entire days visiting him — finally getting to hold him and feed him while he remains in the NICU. It definitely makes it easier knowing that he is making progress each day. Because so many have asked if they could help with anything from meals to finances we thought a good way to come alongside Josiah and Claire during this time and help support them while they both are not able to work and do not have PTO would be to start a GoFundMe for them.
They will have some hefty medical bills for both Claire and Sully's prolonged stay and as we all know…any extra help financially can end up being a huge blessing if not just a sweet way to show some love and offer some encouragement.
Most of all, they would just ask for your continued prayers for Sully’s recovery and return home!
Thank you!
