Sony Phouthavanh Thamdy and her family have always worked hard on their farm in Waialua, Oahu, but everything changed when the Kona Low storm struck. In the middle of the night, Sony was still working in her house when her husband called out, warning her that water was coming fast. Within moments, the water had risen to her knees, and she was forced to take shelter in her container, stuck for four long hours. Her husband urged her to stay in the room to be safe, and she waited anxiously on her bed until her sons could reach her at 5AM.
After escaping the flood, Sony went to her daughter's house, but the ordeal took a toll on her health. She was sick for seven days, struggling with asthma, anxiety attacks, and high blood pressure. The storm not only damaged their farm but also ruined all their household appliances and tractor, leaving the family facing immediate and overwhelming challenges.
Your support will help the Thamdy family recover from this traumatic event. Every contribution provides immediate relief and hope as they begin to heal. Mahalo for your support and kindness during this difficult time.
This GoFundMe was created by the volunteers from Help Maui Rise and will directly benefit Sony and her ʻohana.
