Talia Sanchez was a beloved daughter of Sixto and Venus Sanchez, devoted and loving mother of her 7-month-old baby boy, Levi. On February 11th, a series of events led to her mother requesting the police to Talia’s Fort Worth apartment, and after many hours of waiting for search warrants and hoping for the best, we were confronted with the worst. Talia had been murdered and her baby boy Levi was missing.

Over the next couple of days, Sixto and Venus lived the worst possible nightmare you can imagine. Frantic searching for Levi, the hunt for a murderer who was on the run and trying to grapple with how to navigate life without Talia.

When Levi was finally located, he was far from home, across state lines in New Mexico. New Mexico CPS received custody of Levi and placed him in foster care, and Talia’s parents began the complicated legal quest to secure guardianship of Levi to bring him back home to Texas. At this very moment, Levi remains in foster care in New Mexico. Last night on February 12th, we finally received word that Talia’s murderer had been arrested in El Paso, Texas.

Talia was taken from us in a senseless act of violence leaving behind her precious son and a community that cherished her deeply. Talia’s love for Levi was undeniable—she poured into her son the same unconditional love we all experienced from her. Her warm love and joy seemed to just radiate off her; it was impossible for anyone not to feel it. Baby Levi will never get the opportunity to receive the years of love his mother had in store for him.

But there is hope for building a future for a child who is a victim of violence. A hope to have Levi in a safe and loving home that Talia would want for him.

We are turning to the community for help to make this hope that we have real. A death is always a hard thing to navigate, but the extraordinary circumstances of this one has created unique challenges, and expenses, that Talia’s parents, Sixto and Venus, are being forced to bear.

We are seeking support for two critical areas:

Funeral and Memorial Costs: To honor the memory of Talia who brought so much joy and life to the world and give her the dignified farewell she deserves.

Legal Representation for Levi: Talia’s parents, Venus and Sixto, are now entering a complex legal battle to secure full custody of Levi. We need to ensure they have the best legal counsel to bring Levi home permanently to the safe, loving environment Talia wanted for him.

Anything beyond what is asked for will be used to help Venus and Sixto navigate the financial burdens of missing work, and providing for any needs baby Levi might have once he is released from CPS and back home with his loving grandparents.
