As a parent the worst thing imaginable is something happening to your child.  In the early morning of January 5, 2021, this nightmare transpired for Tricia, Steve, Tim and Teresa. Tricia and Steve were awakened by police knocking on their door. The moment they answered the door and were asked if they were Sydney’s parents their hearts dropped. The police raced them to the hospital where they were joined by Tim, Teresa and Syd's brother, Jack, so they could all be with Syd whose life was hanging in the balance.

Sydney was driving home and was in a serious car accident.  She was at first aware and speaking and then lost consciousness and was rushed to the hospital.  Her medical team was able to perform life saving surgery to stop bleeding and swelling in her brain. She has many other injuries including a fractured tailbone and pelvis which will be attended to after she is stable. She is in the ICU under sedation, breathing on her own.  Further prognosis is unknown at this time.

Sydney is a truly remarkable sophomore in college with a bright future ahead of her.  She is bright, athletic, funny, kind and loving.  And most of all, a strong fighter. If anyone can pull out of this, it’s Sydney. But Syd needs our help. This will be a long road to recovery that might require her family to take time off work to care for her. And to make matters worse, the hospital she was taken to is out of network with her insurance, and we don’t know how much more treatment and/or surgery she will need.  We don’t want her or her family to worry about missed work and medical bills.  They should be free to focus on recovery.
