Help Susie's Fight Against a Brain Aneurysm and Dementia

Donation protected
My name is Grant and I'm fundraising for Susie Brockwell. Susie and her son Richard live in Newport News, Virginia. They live next door to my 84 year old mother. I have spoken to Susie and Richard on a number of occasions over time but I don't know them well. Most of what I know is from conversations that they have had with my mother through the years. Susie recently turned 73. Her husband Sidney passed-away in 2015. She has recently been diagnosed with an aneurysm in the brain and an aneurysm in a leg. She was scheduled to have surgery to try and repair them but it was determined that the procedure would be too dangerous and not possible. Susie has also been diagnosed with presenile dementia and has been exhibiting worsening symptoms in recent months. She has become less social and less able to perform daily functions. My mother and I rarely see her outside of the house. Richard has been her constant and only caretaker. He has done everything that he can for his mother. Unfortunately, Richard has health issues of his own. He has difficulty walking because of swelling in his legs. I'm not familiar with what his condition is but I see him outside of the house occasionally and he appears to be in more pain each time I see him walk a short distance. Richard is in his 50's and because of his condition, is not able to work. They do not own a car. They cannot drive to a store to buy food or medicine. My mother has taken them to doctor's appointments on occasion. All of their food has to be delivered. Richard has applied for SS Disability Insurance but has not yet been approved. They are proud people and don't ask for help, except for the occasional ride to the doctor. Essentially, their only source of income is SS from Susie's late husband. I have helped when I can. I have cut their grass on a number of occasions when it has become overgrown. Between rent, medicine, food and bare essentials, there is not much money left for even the utilities. Why am I trying to raise money for them? Both Susie and Richard have been outstanding to my mother over the years. When they were still very mobile and able, they would bring meals and desserts to my mother like good neighbors used to do. They would look-in on her from time to time, just to see that she was OK. Even though I only live a couple miles from my mother, it is very comforting to know that her neighbors look out for her. That's what good neighbors do. Now, with your help, I can repay the kindness that they have always shown my mother. Anyone that has ever had to care for a family member with dementia or Alzheimer's, knows how difficult and challenging it is. Imagine trying to care for that person while having debilitating issues of your own. Then imagine trying to do it with little to no money left after paying the bills. Susie and Richard are too proud to ask for help but they need help. Please help me help them. Money raised will go directly to them so that Richard can give his mother the care she needs while he still can. Thank you.
