On December 6th, my mom Susan went to the ER for what she thought was swelling from a sinus infection. Instead, doctors found a mass pressing on the main artery going into her heart, nearly closing it off. They believe this may be caused by small cell lung cancer, but because of the risky location, they haven’t been able to get a biopsy to confirm it. After spending a week in the hospital, Susan was discharged and is now traveling daily from Shawano to Appleton for treatments. Her husband Roger has taken time off work to drive her, and several friends have stepped up to help, but the daily trips and the uncertainty are taking a toll on everyone.

I want my mom to be able to focus on healing, not feel guilty for needing help. For some of us, asking for help is harder than giving up, so I’m reaching out to our community to help lift this burden. The funds raised will go toward travel costs, medical bills, and daily living expenses while Roger is off work.
