My name is Joel Potter, and I am fundraising for the Sturgeon family who was affected by the tornado in Elkhorn, Nebraska.

Many families have been devastated, but this one is unique in its story and its effect. Julie Cornell, with KETV 7 posted this:

"The stories are flooding in and we will share details of this one soon. A man who is bed- ridden and lives with MS could not get to the basement as the storm hit Elkhorn. His wife and son laid on top of him as the roof peeled off, trying to protect him.

The home is demolished. Two religious crosses and a picture of the Virgin Mary are untouched on the walls. The man has non life threatening injuries. And his home care nurses who check on him arrived with their families this morning to salvage what's left. They're calling it a miracle that they survived. I cried when I heard he was ok."

The family lost their home; they lost the bed-ridden father's bed, his wheelchair, his hoist lift, and his mobility van, and the son lost his car as well.

The family is going to need help. I don't think anyone knows how much.

I think it is clear they will need a new residence that is wheelchair accessible, a new wheelchair, a hoist lift, a mobility van, and a bed for the family's father.

The family is currently split up with the son in a hotel room with the family dog and cat while his parents are at the hospital. They have no vehicle at the moment.

I work with Jesse, the son in this story, so I am trying to organize some help.

It is a miracle the family survived a tornado by literally using their bodies to shield their father. I hope others can offer some financial support to help shield them from some of the challenges they face moving forward.
