Just recently, after a fulfilling evening of spinning music and crafting with wonderful community members in Los Angeles, my friend and I experienced a robbery that has left us heartbroken and struggling to recover.

My friend, a talented DJ who poured her heart into a two-hour set that night, had her laptop bag stolen. This wasn’t just any laptop; it was her creative hub, filled with years of musical memories, projects, and the tools of her trade. Along with it, her makeup bag, a small but significant personal item, was also taken. The emotional toll of losing such a vital part of her artistic expression and personal history is immense.

As for me, while packing up our supplies, a stranger took advantage of a vulnerable moment. A man brazenly opened my car trunk, grabbed my video mixer and camera bag, and fled towards the train station metro off Flower St and Figueroa, near Texaco Plaza. The items stolen are not just material possessions; they are the instruments of my passion and livelihood. The video mixer, an analog piece, is particularly irreplaceable as it is no longer produced, holding a unique value in my creative work. My camera, a tool for capturing moments and telling stories, is also gone.

We had just spent hours contributing to our community, sharing our art and fostering connections. To have our hard work and dedication met with such a cruel act of theft, especially after a long day, is a profound blow. We are both from the Inland Empire, facing a two-hour drive home, only to realize the extent of our loss and the daunting task of replacing these essential items.

These stolen items represent more than just their monetary value; they are extensions of our creative spirits, our memories, and our ability to continue sharing our art with the world. The laptop holds six years of music, projects, and personal history. The analog video mixer is a unique piece that cannot simply be bought again.
