Recently Sonny was diagnosed with Liver Cancer. A couple of weeks ago, Sonny had a stomach ache. He ended up going to the ER thinking it was something he ate. After a few rounds of testing, the doctors were certain it was his gallbladder and scheduled him for surgery. One doctor had the foresight to continue digging a bit more and found an ulcer in his stomach. This lead the doctors down a different path and they did more testing to discover what most people do not find out until much progression has occurred. The liver cancer initially was 3cm and is localized. This news, while haunting, was actually was a blessing. He has options for treatment, though none will be easy. This is a terrible disease however, with the support of his family, friends and loved ones, we are confident Sonny can pull through this.
As many of you know, Sonny had been on a new job for a construction company. Unfortunately, he was not working long enough to accrue time for a leave of absence with pay. He is on leave without pay from his employer and is responsible for his insurance premium monthly. In addition, he will need the initial $3000 for the deductible.
As Sonny is the sole provider for his parents and family the financial impact is tremendous. We are hosting a fundraising event on November 2nd, 2019 to raise funds for the insurance premiums, deductibles, transportation and lodging while in Houston at the Methodists Hospital as well as funds for him to continuing supporting his parents and son.
On Monday, October 21st he will have his first procedure done, a biopsy to determine the treatment.
