My name is Cara, and I am reaching out for support after the unimaginable loss of my son, Skyler. On January 30, Skyler committed suicide at just 23 years old. My son was a hard worker, a loyal friend, and someone who always tried to make others smile. If he wasn’t at home playing video games with his friends, he was with them out on adventures, bringing laughter and joy wherever he went. Everyone who knew him thought he was funny and kind, always ready to cheer someone up.
Skyler had recently called his family in Wenatchee, reaching out for help after a breakup with his girlfriend. He asked if he could move back home, and I immediately prepared my car to make the trip to Everett to help him. It took me about three hours to get there, but nothing could have prepared me for the tragedy I found. Skyler had taken his life. He struggled with anxiety and depression, and in his pain, he thought this was the only way to stop hurting. There are no words to express how heartbroken all his friends and family are.
This loss has left my family devastated. To make things even more difficult, I lost my job at the beginning of January and have been searching for work ever since, but haven’t had any luck. Now, I am facing the overwhelming costs of funeral expenses, bringing Skyler’s body home, and seeking grief counseling to help my family and I cope with this tragedy.
I am asking for help from anyone who is able to support us during this incredibly hard time. Your donation will go directly toward covering these urgent expenses and helping me find a way forward. Thank you to everyone who is able to give, and to those who have offered support in other ways. Your kindness means more than words can say. If you or someone you know is struggling with anxiety or depression, please reach out for help. You are not alone, and there are people who care and understand what you are going through. Taking your own life is not the answer—there is support out there, and you don’t have to do this alone.
