We are Skyler’s unofficial adopted family. My mom has been raising him since he was a kid, at the request of his mother. Years ago, when she was unwell and felt she could no longer care for him, she asked my mother to take him in and treat him as her own. My mother did just that—she loved him so much. To her, he was, and always will be, her son. The rest of us grew up with him as our brother. That’s how we knew him. That’s how we loved him. He IS our brother.

Skyler was the best—kind, supportive, and full of love and joy. He would be there for anyone he loved as fast as possible, no questions asked, every time. That’s just how he was. He jumped at the opportunity to help anyone, any chance he got. That’s what brought him joy: doing everything he could to make a difference in other people’s lives and in this world. We are completely heartbroken over losing him. This has all been so sudden and scary.

Skyler spent the last few years caring for our family, as they’re all dealing with multiple disabilities. His boyfriend Jayce is working on finding a job now to help with expenses for the foreseeable future. However, this takes time, and it’s not easy. Due to his own disabilities, it limits how much he can work. So until we can figure out some more permanent solutions for them, we’re looking for donations to at least help keep them in their home—a home they are on the verge of losing without Skyler.
