Skyler Starr, 21, of Lee's Summit, Missouri, was out for a quick motorcycle ride in Kansas City on February 17, when a vehicle pulled out in front of him causing a collision. Skyler suffered a contusion to his spinal cord, resulting in paralysis from the chest down. He had 4 broken vertebrae, a broken rib, and a broken ankle, as well as multiple other minor lacerations.
In March, Skyler was transported to Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska, and then to QLI in Omaha in May. Due to COVID-19, no one is allowed to visit Skyler and so he is going through the fight of his life alone. Skyler’s faith is strong and he is very determined and improving daily. Motor skills are slowly and gradually returning. Thank God!
Skyler is a 2016 graduate of Lee's Summit High School and currently a junior at MidAmerica Nazarene College. He is an Intern in Cybersecurity at the NAIC in Kansas City and was formerly the Assistant Manager at Schlotzskys in Lee’s Summit.
The driver who hit Skyler was underinsured. She only carried $50,000 in liability insurance and policy proceeds will not be paid out to Skyler for months. A Go Fund Me account has been established to assist Skyler with uninsured medical bills, family travel expenses, income replacement, home/auto adaptations, etc. Skyler plans to return to the Lee’s Summit area after he is discharged. However, it is anticipated that his recovery will be very long-term and he will likely need various adaptations to his home/auto in order to function independently.
Skyler and his family have the utmost faith that the Lord will provide along the way through the hands and feet of His people and the generosity of many. Our prayer is that we will see our “Sky Guy” healed and able to return back to both work and school. We can't thank you enough for your prayers and for all of the generous acts of love. They are literally holding us up each and every day.
