This past January, our lives were turned upside down when my sister was diagnosed with cancer. She is a hardworking single mother and the sole provider for my 10-year-old nephew, Pierce. In August 2024, she took a leap of faith and moved across the country from our small hometown to give Pierce a better life and be closer to family—a decision that may have saved her life, as Duke is one of the top treatment centers for her type of cancer. After finding a job and a home for them, she settled into our wonderful Holly Springs community and fell in love with our church, The Summit-Apex.
Towards the end of summer 2024, she had noticed inflammation and a lump in her breast. Once her new job’s benefits became active, she scheduled a breast exam, leading to a series of tests—mammograms, ultrasounds, biopsies, PET scans, and blood work. The results confirmed what we had prayed so hard not to hear: at just 40 years old, my sister was diagnosed with stage 3 inflammatory breast cancer, a rare and aggressive form of cancer that had already spread to six nearby lymph nodes.
Her team at Duke has been nothing short of incredible—hopeful, encouraging, and ready to fight alongside her. But the road ahead is long and difficult. She is undergoing aggressive treatment, starting with “Red Devil” chemotherapy, followed by a double mastectomy and removal of all six affected lymph nodes, and then radiation. While we are hopeful she can continue working, it’s still uncertain how her body will handle the intense treatments. This GoFundMe will help ease the financial burden—covering medical expenses, putting food on the table, and ensuring she and Pierce have a stable home during this battle.
Above all, we ask for your prayers. Please pray that her treatments are effective, that side effects are minimal, and that she and Pierce remain strong in their faith—trusting in Jesus, who walks beside us even in the hardest moments. This has been devastating for our family, and your support means more than words can express.
