Hi everyone. So after last year's adjustments, I really figured this was going to be my year. I had goals and plans, and so many things I was looking forward to.
Instead, just before Christmas, I was having so much abdominal pain, that my bf suggested that I go to the ER. I wasn't going to reach any of my goals if I wasn't healthy. So on Dec 15th I had a ct scan showing thickening of my ascending colon wall, and that had the ER docs pretty concerned, especially considering my family history of colon cancer and Lynch Syndrome. So I set up my appointment, and after celebrating my 48th birthday on January 17th, I started my colon prep and went in for my colonoscopy on January 20th. I was told that the doctor removed one polyp and found a concerning mass.
I tried to go about the next few days like normal, finally being able to pick up Lauren, 8, and Dylan, 12. But instead I was exhausted, and the pain started to return. I feel like such a terrible mom when I say that it was not a good visit. Friday morning, January 23, the kids went back to school and their dad's after, and went back to work that night. Unfortunately, I couldn't stay very long, since my pain and bloating were increasing. I went back to the ER, where another ct scan showed a blockage. They admitted me and planned for surgery the following morning. That Friday night, my doctor returned with the pathology reports from my colonoscopy. It was colon cancer. One of my biggest fears as my grandmother posed away from it. And my mother went through stage 3c colon cancer.
They ended up removing a 7cm mass within a one foot piece of my colon, along with 26 lymph nodes.
That being said, I'll be out of work for at least a month, possibly closer to 6 weeks. As a single mom, that's just not financially possible, and I'm very humbly asking for help. If you can't help financially, please share my story.
And most important, please go get your colonoscopy or color guard. Thank you
