Support for Silas After Losing His Father

I’m reaching out on behalf of my dearest friend Freida, and her son Silas. I have known her since before she met Dom, and had Silas. This family is very dear to my heart. I call her my sister.

Freida and Silas are going through something they never imagined having to navigate this soon. Freida's partner recently passed away on April 30th due to a cardiac arrest caused by high blood sugar, after battling diabetes since he was 10 years old. I’m now trying to figure out how to move forward while caring for her son, Silas. Everything has shifted all at once: emotionally, financially, and logistically. She is doing her best to keep things stable for him while also handling the reality of what comes next.

Dom was a present and loving father, and Silas absolutely adored him. He had a way of showing up for the people he loved, even in small, everyday ways that meant everything. Losing him has left a space that can’t really be put into words, not just for me, but especially for our son, who is now growing up without him.

During the 10 days Dom was in the hospital, my sister had to miss work to support their son emotionally and keep an eye on his condition. This time away from work has added to the financial strain, making it even harder to keep up with their regular expenses and provide for Silas.

They were not fully prepared for this. Between rent, basic living expenses, and the gap while she works through things like Social Security and assistance applications, it’s been overwhelming. She is actively taking the steps needed, but those processes take time, and right now, time is the hardest part.

If you’re able to help, any amount truly makes a difference. And if you’re not in a position to give, sharing this means just as much. More than anything, I’m trying to keep a sense of normalcy and security for Silas during a time that doesn’t feel normal at all. Your support, whether financial or simply sharing this, helps us get a little closer to that. Thank you for reading, and for being here in whatever way you can.
