Shoshana Sfarzada, beloved Director of Hebrew Instruction and Hebrew teacher at Milton Gottesman Jewish Day School of the Nation’s Capital, has recently been diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease), a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects the brain and spinal cord. G’veret Sfarzada has been central to building MILTON’s Hebrew program and led the talented elementary and middle school Hebrew teams to achieve excellence in teaching Hebrew as a second language. Her contributions to JPDS/MILTON cannot be overstated.
Now it is our turn to show our love and appreciation for the many ways in which Shoshana contributed to the development of our students and the school. Shoshana and her family have been an integral part of the JPDS/MILTON community for 16 years and her daughters, Talya and Aviah Krupnick, are JPDS alumni – class of 2011 and 2012 respectively.
To help Shoshana and her family defray some of the costs of her medical and home care, as well as the cost of an accessible home, her friends are coordinating financial support through GoFundMe. According to the ALS Association website, the estimated out-of-pocket cost for caring for a person with ALS is $250,000. If you are able to help, please make a contribution and share the GoFundMe page with friends and family.
In addition to mentoring the Hebrew teaching team, Shoshana taught many of our alumni students during her 15 years in the classroom at JPDS/MILTON. We encourage all her former students to express their hakarat hatov, their gratitude, by making contributions and by helping us to get the word out to others. The site allows for sharing comments and sending good wishes – an additional way to express our love and support.
We will keep Shoshana (Shoshana bat Yocheved) and her family in our prayers and we ask you to do the same. Thank you so much for your support.
