Our lives changed forever in a matter of moments. In the early morning hours of Tuesday January 27th, a devastating house fire tore through my Aunt Libby and Uncle Shawn's home. My Uncle Shawn was able to get out of the house, but his wife—my beloved Aunt Libby—tragically did not. My Aunt Libby lost her life in the fire, along with their two cherished pets, MoeMo and Missy. In an instant, my uncle lost his partner, his companions, and the home they built together.

My Aunt Libby was a loving and generous soul who was truly loved by everyone she ever met. She loved her family fiercely and would do anything to help them and protect them. Her heart was big, her presence warm, and her kindness genuine. She absolutely adored their dog, MoeMo, and cat, Missy—MoeMo and Missy were their babies, and my aunt and uncle both cared for them with the same devotion and love they show to their family and friends.

The home that was lost in the fire was my Aunt Libby's dream. She was so proud of their beautiful house and the life she and my uncle continued to build inside it. That home was more than just a structure—it was a place filled with love, memories, and the comfort she worked so hard to create.

Although my Uncle Shawn survived the fire, the emotional trauma he is enduring is profound. He is grieving the sudden loss of his wife, their beloved pets, and the home that meant so much to them. The fire destroyed the entire first floor of the house and caused extensive smoke and water damage throughout the second and third floors. While the home can be restored, it will require significant repairs before it is safe and livable again.

As my Uncle Shawn navigates this unimaginable loss, he is also facing overwhelming expenses. Funeral and memorial costs are immediate, and the process of restoring the home will be lengthy and costly. No one should have to carry this weight while grieving any loss, let alone a loss of this magnitude.
