Support for Shauna and Family

Donation protected
My name is Brenda Davison and I am writing this summary for the family of Shauna Grant. Any and all donations are allocated and set up to be paid directly to Eric Grant, the sole provider and primary caregiver for Shauna and her family.

Shauna began experiencing abnormal neurological symptoms at the beginning of September 2018. She was admitted for a week at St. Mary’s Hospital in Apple Valley. The doctors ran numerous tests and a week later sent her home with a “misdiagnosis” of Multiple Sclerosis. After being at home for a few days, her vision began to blur and continually worsen as the days passed. Thankfully, on September 17, 2018, her husband Eric, recognized the progression of Shauna’s symptoms and immediately took action by driving her to Loma Linda University Medical Center. She was immediately admitted into the ICU Neurology Unit. From day one at LLUMC, she has been provided with an amazing team of nurses and doctors who ran test after test, ordered CT Scans, PET Scans, Lumbar Punctures, Plasmapheresis; but still, were baffled as to her neurological condition. After putting many heads together and using the results from the barrage of medical tests administered, the team of doctors diagnosed Shauna with Guillain-Barre Syndrome. This syndrome is an extremely RARE disorder in which the body's immune system attacks its nerves. The initial symptoms are typically extreme weakness, as well as tingling in the arms and legs, which can take over the entire body and cause paralysis. This describes Shauna’s symptoms perfectly.

She was moved to an acute rehabilitation facility located in Loma Linda, California, on October 22, 2018. Shauna is now undergoing rigorous rehabilitation for speech therapy, physical therapy, and occupational therapy. Shauna’s medical diagnosis has NO cure and can commonly take up to a year to overcome, and in some extreme cases, up to three years to completely recover from.

Shauna is a loving mother of two beautiful teenage girls and has been married to her husband, Eric, for 18 years.  As one could only imagine, this unexpected illness has taken an abrupt toll on their family financially, physically, and emotionally. Eric has been by Shauna’s side throughout the entirety of this illness. The last day Eric was able to go into work was on September 7, 2018. He is patiently waiting for Family Leave Disability to kick in. Shauna, as many of you know, works in a school district, and does not qualify for state disability.

Shauna has touched MANY people’s lives. If you know her, you know that she adores her family and would do absolutely anything to help someone in need. This time, it’s Shauna that needs OUR help. If you are able to make a donation of any amount, her family would be eternally grateful. If you’re not able to make a donation at this time, please SHARE her GOFUNDME page through any social media, email, or text so we can help, Shauna, a person who truly lives her life to help others. Prayers are ALWAYS welcome.
