Our family is walking through something no one is ever prepared for. My son-in-law, Shaun, is currently on hospice after an almost four-year battle with cancer. For nearly four years, he has fought with strength, determination, and incredible courage. He has endured treatments, hospital stays, setbacks, and small victories — always holding onto hope and always putting his family first.

Shaun and my daughter Sarah have four beautiful children — two in high school and two in college — who love their dad deeply and are trying to navigate life while watching him face the hardest chapter of his. Right now, Sarah is carrying the weight of their household on her shoulders. Nearly her entire paycheck goes toward maintaining health insurance coverage for the family. Shaun’s disability income helps, but it only stretches so far. With everyday living expenses, college costs, mortgage payments, and the added realities that come with serious illness, the financial strain is becoming an additional struggle.
