Shane is a bright and resilient child who has been diagnosed with ARID1B, a rare genetic disorder that has no cure. This condition affects many aspects of his health, including his heart, lungs, and eyes. Shane experiences light sensitivity, a significant speech delay, and requires continuous support in his daily life. To help him communicate, he uses a Talk Me tablet, which has become an essential tool for him, especially when others have trouble understanding his words. In addition to these challenges, Shane has an intellectual disability and is borderline for Autism Spectrum Disorder. The ARID1B diagnosis also puts him at risk for seizures, adding another layer of concern for our family.

Recently, Shane's doctors have recommended that he undergo an MRI at Iowa City's Children's Hospital. They are looking for a possible brain tumor and want to determine if he has experienced any past seizures. This journey is both emotionally and financially challenging for our family.
