On July 19, 2024, PFC Jason Arritt unexpectedly passed away in his sleep at the young age of 34. At this time, we do not have any answers for what caused Jason to pass away so young in his sleep. Jason was survived by his wife, Justine, his parents, Kenneth Arritt and Anna Tully; stepmother Twila Arritt, and family and friends.
Jason's time in the military, although something he was proud of, also left him with unseen scars. Jason lost his platoon leader, Lt Weston Lee, while serving in Iraq. Lt Weston Lee was someone that Jason truly admired and losing him was something Jason would never fully heal from, among several other internal battles.
He was a dedicated friend who would strive to help others any chance he had. Jason was working towards big improvements personally before his passing. He was working on clearing up some financial burdens he had accumulated while trying to help others, in order to feel as though he was helping himself.
Justine has been left with the debts of those choices, as well as all upfront and unplanned expenses in the wake of his passing. Justine is a newly operated small business owner who has unfortunately been unable to work this past week while trying to overcome her grief, as well as handle all the next steps so that Jason can be laid to rest in the way that he most wanted, at Arlington National Cemetery. I will post an update at the bottom of this in regards to his service.
As Jason's sister-in-law, I am hoping to raise money to cover these unplanned expenses, Justine's missed wages, and some of the debts that Jason left behind that she is now responsible for. If there are any remaining funds, they would assist towards accommodations for Justine and or other family members who may not have the means to travel for his service otherwise. Beyond that, they would go towards a nonprofit charity of Justine's pick that she feels would best represent and or touch Jason.
The most recent update from Justine:
"Jason's wishes were to be in Arlington National Cemetery resting with Lt. Weston Lee. It looks like this will be a year and a half until this takes place.
I am trying hard to make this happen.
It may be 5 months until we find out if he is approved to rest there. If Arlington can't place him, he will be resting at a National Cemetery in North Carolina with military honors. He meets the basic requirements for Arlington, but there are a lot of logistics, so we're just waiting the 5 months. I was in contact this morning and have opened a case. As soon as I find out anything definite, I will give another update.
After the approval, someone from Arlington scheduling will be in contact with me. And it is estimated to be a year and a half from now for a placement for cremated remains. His family has agreed it's best that we wait, since this is what he expressed he wanted.
I understand that everyone is so spread out and I think it would be best to wait to plan an 'in person celebration of life' until the main service. Since the final burial could be at least a year away. We are hoping to plan a memorial that everyone can join from the comfort of their homes to share stories and remember him.
He wanted to be in Arlington, so I'm giving it this one last fight for him as much as I can.
Please remember that he wouldn't want us to dwell in sadness. We all loved him so much ❤️
Also, I'm sorry that this is how I'm updating everyone. It's the easiest way to make sure people can see it. Please share with anyone that may want to know.
