Dear friends,
I am so saddened to say that one of our closest family friends Sergey Bazhan, has been diagnosed with AML (acute myelocytic leukemia) this week in Russia. My family is truly heartbroken over these news, as we have been lifelong friends. They have three amazing (now adult) kids with whom we grew up, and four beautiful young grandchildren.
AML is treatable, though unfortunately in Russia, appropriate treatment is limited to very few locations (eg. Moscow, etc) and extraordinarily expensive, which does not even account for relocation costs. According to preliminary estimates provided to his family, the cost of quality, modern treatment amounts to 10-15 million rubles (155-200k USD), which as you might imagine is nearly impossible to collect.
