Our family is devastated to share that Selastina was taken from us suddenly and horrifically after a tragic car accident. On November 30th, Selastina and her husband, Santiago, were driving home when their vehicle was struck by a car traveling at an extreme rate of speed. The other driver was under the influence. The impact was catastrophic, and both Selastina and Santiago were ejected from their vehicle.

Santiago survived but sustained serious injuries. He has an upcoming surgery and faces a long and uncertain road to recovery. Selastina never regained consciousness. She remained in the hospital while on life support, surrounded by family, before passing away.

In the midst of this tragedy, Selastina was able to save and improve the lives of others. Through organ, tissue, and bone donation, she miraculously helped 77 people, a final act of generosity that reflects the heart she carried her whole life.

The driver responsible has been arrested and is facing multiple charges including vehicular homicide. Our family will be attending court dates as they arise, standing together in honor of Selastina and supporting the pursuit of justice.

This GoFundMe is to support my sister, Tina, our family, Santiago and the children as we navigate the emotional, financial, and legal aftermath of this tragedy. But it is also for something deeply important:

To fund a beautiful, dignified funeral and memorial service that honors Selastina’s life, her legacy, her spirit, and the love she poured into her children and family.

We want to give her the farewell she deserves, one rooted in love, community, and gratitude for her life.

Additionally, we are working to provide comfort and stability for her children as they face the unimaginable. Just days after losing his mother, her oldest son turned 13. The children are grieving, frightened, and trying to understand a world that changed overnight.

With Christmas approaching, we are doing everything we can to create a holiday that honors their mother, protects their hearts, and prevents the holidays from becoming a source of trauma in the years ahead. Our goal is to wrap these babies in love and help them feel held, by us, by community, and by the memory of their mom.
