Sean Counterman is a husband, a father, a son, a brother, an uncle, a grandson, a cousin, and a nephew. But most importantly, he is a fighter.
Sean was born with a congenital anomaly that resulted in underdevelopment of his kidneys. This complication resulted in numerous infections as an infant, ultimately resulting in undergoing a kidney transplant at the young age of 22. He has been courageously navigating life with an immunocompromised status and one kidney ever since.
Now 38-years-old, Sean found out what he thought was just a typical case of appendicitis turned out to be something much more serious. After several anxious days in the hospital and having his appendix removed, Sean was diagnosed with stage 4 renal cell carcinoma.
Because Sean has already had a transplant, he is not a candidate for the cocktail of medications that has proven to slow the growth of the cancer. The current recommendation from his medical team is to start an expensive oral medication called Cabometryx with the hope of undergoing a medical trial at MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Sean, his wife, Callie, and two boys, Wyatt (6) and Walker (4) need all the support they can get right now. He has a long road ahead of him, but if you’ve met Sean, then you know he is #TransplantStrong. He is the most selfless person who continues to fight all of his battles without ever asking anybody for help. He has no plans on slowing down and is ready to fight with everything he’s got.
In order for Sean to have the best possible outcome, donations will go towards all medical bills and treatment. Any amount is incredible, and no sentiment is too small.
Exodus 14:14 – The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.
